SUMMARY:Andrew Butt Trio+
DESCRIPTION:It can be difficult to make a name for yourself as a saxophone player in today’s world\, but Brisbane’s award-winning saxophonist Andrew Butt has been making his mark on the world. Described by ABC Jazz as a stalwart of the Australian music scene\, Andrew has performed as a sideman for many of Australia’s leading jazz artists including James Morrison\, Emma Pask\, Tom Burlinson\, Dan Barnett\, Rhonda Burchmore and David Campbell\, but has also performed in his own right all around Australia and overseas\, touring extensively through Indonesia\, New Zealand\, China\, Europe and the USA. \nAndrew’s distinct sound and original compositions have seen his music featured on ABC Jazz Track and his Trio in demand for performances at major venues and festivals across the world including Le Baiser Salé & Sunset-Sunside – Paris\, the Wangaratta Festival of Jazz\, the Brisbane International Jazz Festival\, iF Jazz Café – Budapest\, U Malého Glena Jazz – Prague\, Tanks Arts Centre – Cairns\, Bennetts Lane and the Paris Cat Jazz Club – Melbourne. \nAndrew has drawn a lot of inspiration for his playing style from jazz saxophonist Paul Desmond. Paul Desmond was most well known for his work with the Dave Brubeck Quartet and for writing one of the most well-known tunes in jazz – “Take 5”! A long-time collaborator with Dave Brubeck\, when asked about his distinctive light sound\, Desmond commented\, “I had it in the back of my mind that I wanted to sound like a dry martini”. \nDrawing from that influence\, Andrew is becoming recognised for his genius as a melodic improviser. His sense of space and time displayed through his compositions\, create a sense of longing and beauty. He has recently released a new album “Peregian”. This 2024 Queensland Music Award-winning album is inspired by themes that come out of everyday experiences\, friendships\, travels\, and love. The title track “Peregian” was inspired by his visit to our own Peregian Beach. Another track “Le Baiser Sale”\, inspired by his performance at the Paris Jazz Club\, won the jazz category at the Queensland Music Awards. \nThe Andrew Butt Trio will be performing tracks from the award-winning album plus some of their favourite jazz standards at “The Jazz Sessions” on Thursday 19th Nov at 6:30pm\, featuring some of Queensland’s finest musicians. \nThe Presynct\, upstairs – 15 Ann St\, Nambour\nDoors open 6:00pm\nShow starts 6:30pm to 9:00pm\nBar and food van on-site \nParking available behind the venue.\nTickets: $18 – $46\nLimited seating so book early to be assured of a seat. \nTickets available for purchase soon \nIf you’re looking for a unique concert experience\, look no further than The Jazz Sessions at The Presynct.\nThis hidden gem offers intimate shows for listeners in a beautifully curated venue.\nThese are listening concerts where people can come together to enjoy live music in a true jazz club experience. \nWe ask that talking is kept to a quiet whisper as audience members are actively listening to the music.
